No Heels? No Problem | The Flat Shoes Edit

Earlier this month, Nicola Thorpe was sent home from work for wearing flat shoes. She subsequently launched a petition asking the government to make it illegal for a company to require women to wear high heels in the workplace – so far, this petition has been received 140,622 signatures, therefore requiring a direct response from Parliament.

With working hours getting longer and heels getting higher, it’s no wonder our sky-scraper stilettos are being left at the back of the wardrobe during the week – it’s not the most practical of attire, regardless of how on-trend they may seem. Whilst flat shoes may be often overlooked in favour of their higher counterparts, flats can be just as stylish and office-appropriate as a pair of pumps – check out our favourites below!

Trainers and Sneakers

Keep your work shoes in immaculate condition by wearing trainers or sneakers to and from work. However, who says your commuting shoes have to be boring?

Opt for a beautifully bright pair – we’re crushing on the lime Asics Chilli Pepper Trainers –  an all-over metallic look like the ASH Cult Metal Silver Flatforms, or get edgy with studding, snakeskin and zipper embellishments. Not quite your style? Choose classic white sneakers in familiar silhouettes – think Converse Chuck Taylors, Puma R698s and Vans Old Skool Canvas Trainers for effortless cool.

Booties and Brogues

Paired with matte tights, cigarette pants or pencil skirts, booties and brogues are a must for the office…

Ensure your boots are super professional by choosing luxurious fabrics – the H Shoes by Hudson Apisi Velvet Boots are soft and supple, and look the part – or have a pointed toe for maximum impact, like the H Shoes by Hudson Pointed Ankle Boots. Similarly, pick brogues that will get heads turning – we like the Purified Patent Python Leather Brogues in white leather and the high shine H by Hudson Magee Black Brogues.

Sandals and Slip-Ons

For the warmer months, choose a pair of luxury sandals; get glamorous with metalwork, like the Hugo Plenn Leather Sandals, or embrace your animal instincts with a studded, snakeskin pair from ASH. Ballet pumps are great for wearing with skirts and trousers, and there are some beautiful office-appropriate styles from Vivienne Westwood for Melissa.

Looking for something a little more directional? Choose buckles, cut-outs and points à la H Shoes by Hudson Liv Pointed Flats, or something vintage and quirky – think HUGO British-P Loafers in buttery nude.
