Beauty Trends of 2016

With 2016 comes a whole host of new beauty trends. Long gone are the plum lips, matte finishes and heavily-kohled eyes of 2015 – this year, it’s all about red, gold and blues. Stay one step ahead and make sure you’ve got the upcoming trends of 2016 covered, thanks to our guide below…

The Red Lip

The red lip never really falls off the beauty radar – although 2015 saw a rise in the popularity of nudes, beiges and browns, leaving reds trailing in their wake. For Spring 2016, the red lip is back in full force. The specific hue of choice? Vibrant, candy-apple red; think Snow White, Jessica Rabbit, Elizabeth Taylor – this is no time for plums or burgundies.

Whether you plump for a lacquered pout seen at Nina Ricci’s catwalk show, or a beautifully matte look à la DKNY, keep the rest of your look minimal; sleek brows, soft highlighter and a touch of mascara make your red lips pop.

The Peachy Lids

Who says blush pinks and soft peaches must be reserved for the lips? Forgo dark shadow shades and opt for ethereal, dreamy colours; the more shimmery, buttery and honeyed, the better. Altuzarra models rocked a satsuma shadow, whereas Erdem painted lids a muted, dusty rouge.

The Sunkissed Glow

It may not be summer, but that’s no excuse. Golden shimmer, bronze lids and barely-there glosses are a must this season; whilst matte was the go-to finish for 2015, in the new year we’re loving the dewy, radiant glow of metallics.

Keep the whole look neutral – and don’t forget to highlight your neck and décolletage to fully embrace the trend, using a soft, fluffy brush and illuminating highlighting powder.

The Blue Smokey Eye

Time to leave the black eyeliner pencil behind; this year, it’s all about cobalt, sky blue, and aquamarine eyes, all smoked out to perfection. Colour outside the lines and make your blue smokey eye as dramatic as possible – smoke right up to the brow bone, as seen at Missoni and Jason Wu in 2015, or keep the line sharp like Boss and Jonathon Saunders: either way, the brighter, the better.
