Combining a rich 250-year heritage as an industry leader and the latest technological advancements, Salter Housewares is a global leader in kitchen and bathroom scales and is helping redefine smart living at home.
Founded back in 1760 in Bilston, England, Salter owes its inception to Mr Richard Salter, a spring maker, who began making pocket steelyards—an ancestor of the modern fisherman's scale. Richard's small-scale business was transformed from 1825 onwards when his nephew George Salter took over the business. George moved the business to a large manufacturing site in West Bromich and began producting a wide variety of scales, including the UK's first ever bathroom scale, alongside other tools ranging from irons and potato chippers to mincers and coin-operated machines. The Salter family business was also the first to bring the typewriter across the channel and produce it for a British audience.
Salter went from strength to strength in the 1900s and became one of the biggest workforces in the Midlands, employing over 2000 staff by 1950. Today, Salter continues its heritage of imaginative, intelligent design by continuing to innovative the the UK's number one brand for bathroom and kitchen scales. From allowing you to create your own customised cookbooks online to analysing the precise percentage breakdown of your body mass, Salter's product range stays true to the brand's core values while embracing the potential offered by modern technologies.
