Take some time off work...

I was a big fan of Oblivion and the 360 Fallout games, and I was very excited by the prospect of a bigger, better time-sink of an RPG. I wasn't disappointed - The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is unbelievably immersive with plenty of customisation options and a huge world to explore. With the addition of dragons appearing at random when you're travelling through the country side, the thrill of discovering new places and foes lasts for days. I'm still quite a long way from completing the game, but have managed to sink dozens of hours into side quests while barely starting the main storyline. Now that the latest patch (released March/April 2013) has been released and raises the level cap, it's a great time to pick up a budget-priced copy to see you through the cold Spring! If you are a fan of RPGs in any way you owe it to yourself to pick this up.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim game is amazing! It's the best Role Playing Game I have ever played. There is literally hundreds of hours of game-play here. There is so much to explore in this vast, detailed world and with the promises of large Downloadable Content coming from Bethesda and the new Kinect update, there is even more to do!

The best RPG of all time?

5

The Elder Scrolls have been known for great scenery, RPG tactics, story and gameplay mechanics. After the release for Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, there were no other RPG that could match up against it in its time. Until now. Skyrim have finally been released after months upon months of waiting. Does it deliver the goods? Gameplay have been increasingly improved over Oblivion, and have fixed the stiff combat. Both sword fighting, magic and archery. Now it's more fun, with killing blows and great spells that will make you feel powerful. It's all up to you in which category you want to progress in. When you level up, you can choose between Stamina, Health and Magica. Stamina makes your character more lasting and can run more and swing your sword more. Health basically increases your max health. Which is an important asset for survival. Magica increases your magic indicator, which allows you to cast more magic. There are also Perks in the level system, where you unlock new mechanics for your fighting, flirting or thieving. It's simply great! The audio is one of the best I've heard from a video game. From the peaceful Forrest walk to intense fighting with a dragon. It still doesn't top my personal favorites, but comes pretty close. The NPC voice acting have also been improved. Non of the boring conversations with meaningless NPCs like we got in Oblivion, now it's more humor and dramatic, which it's suppose to be. The graphics are intense. It doesn't match other graphic monsters out there like Battlefield 3, Crysis 2 or The Witcher 2. In my opinion, that doesn't matter to be because Skyrim is HUGE! Sure we'll see some texture pop-ins from time to time, but that's not as often as in other FPS games. The scenery blew me away because it looks so "nordic". Yet I myself are from Norway, which looks beautiful in both in-game and In real life. There's isn't more I can say about the game, only that it does deliver the best RPG experience of all time. If you see this in a shelf at your local video game store or finding it at websites like www.thehut.com. Get it. It's more than you could ever bargain for!

Last night, I completed the main plot line for Skyrim. That's the "finished" part. But is the game finished? Hell no. To be honest, if I wasn't reviewing it, I wouldn't be anywhere near finishing the main plot line. As it is, I was sidetracked so easily by things along the way. What's this cave? Who are these people? Investigate the burned building? Sure! Join the Companions? You got it! Figure out what's up the Eye of Magnus? No sweat! But I had to grit my teeth and ignore so many fascinating and interesting things in order to grind out the main plot just for the sake of reviewing. So yeah, I "finished" it. But I'm definitely planning to be playing it for many, many more hours in the future. In all honesty, now I feel like I can sit back, relax, and let the game world sink in on my own time. Bottom line: This game is great. Fantastic, even. I'm not afraid to use the word "phenomenal." It's my pick for Game of the Year, and it didn't look like anything was going to wrestle that title away from Portal 2. The only gripes I was left with were the occasional bugs (a bit too many crashes to desktop for my liking) and a rather clunky interface (found myself opting for the Xbox 360 controller over the mouse/keyboard combo). Aside from these ultimately tiny inconveniences, this is one of the biggest, boldest, and best games I've ever had the pleasure of playing. And right now, I still feel like I've hardly scratched the surface. Bethesda hit a huge home run here. Skyrim is epic, fantastic, fabulous, and it will drown you and your social life in it's country filled with life and dangers.
