So-so shooter

3

Considering third-person shooters are not exactly a rarity, it's odd that Sega should choose to jump on the bandwagon so late in the day with Binary Domain. Thankfully, the mechanics are competent with enemies presenting a decent challenge on the hardest difficulty settings, but there are a few areas which let the game down. Cut scenes are rife, and though they are skip-able, there are numerous occasions where you hit a lull in the action as team mates decide to have a conversation or spew exposition at you, your movement slowing to a crawl or stopping altogether as you wait for the poorly-written character to attempt to round themselves out. Boss battles are very reminiscent of old school Japanese gaming, with attack patterns to be memorised and glowing weak spots to be targeted, but all too often they become a war of attrition as you pound away for half an hour whilst circle-strafing in makeshift arenas or trying to dodge fire whilst on rails.

Far better than expected

I saw this game at thehut.com after I tried the demo a few months ago. The demo for Binary Domain wasn't very promising, although I ordered the game. The intro of the game and the first hour sucked me right in, and I played the whole game through in about 8 hours. It was a lot of fun. I really like the story and characters and shooting the robots to pieces is also really cool. I recommend this game to anyone who likes shooters in common!

A very decent 3rd person shooter

3

when you buy this game, you can expect a very decent and solid 3rd person shooter, with a enjoyable story and characters. You have elements taken from other games, like the gears of war cover mechanics, which works well in the game, or the Mass effect interaction with team members, which affect their disposition towards you. Sadly, you can only select a text answer, you never hear your character saying the answer, which takes away some of the immersion in the dialogue. Supposedly, you can say command inputs with your headset, but from my experience, the voice recognition barely works. The enemies and shootouts get repetitive after a while, but the game always tries to create different action sequences to keep things balances, and it works. While it's not the most original game, and it shows things you've seen before in other games, it certainly isn't bad, and you can expect to have a fun and entertaining ride. Tried playing online (in September 2012) and never found any matches, so the online is pretty much dead right now. Pros: -solid game mechanics -decent storyline and characters -always manages to be fun Cons: -no one plays it online anymore -nothing new to the genre

Very good game

5

Binary domain is a great game with an excellent story and not so easy achievements. Its underrated by the most magazine reviews. Except of the multi-player I recommend the game everyone. The multi-player is rare to complete because the lack of online players and complicated achievements.

It absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead

Terminator parallels aside, this is a superb game. Robots disguised as humans are considered a definite no no in the year 2080, and when one pops up in Detroit seemingly unaware it's actually a robot, it's your job to find out the who, the where and the why... using a small team and some very large guns. Forget about the Terminator and ignore the hysterical global warming message underpinning the plot, and you've got a brilliant, great looking, action packed 3rd person shooter on your hands. LOTS of fun!

For a low price Binary Domain is, I cant really grumble for a new game but, blasting armor plated robots in this game does get a bit tiresome pretty quickly. They should have maybe put more effort into putting more into an early back story to give the player a sense of why you are there, what the robots are up to and just how much of a threat they are not just stick you on a broken road blasting a mindless Droid Army. Would have enjoyed a more sinister enemy. But it looked good wasn't easy or quick to complete and i quite liked the microphone integration and interaction with team members was different and kept me playing to the end along with a bit of weapon customization.

This game is Gears of war meets iRobot! Good graphics, sweet gameplay, and an awesome storyline, with good characterisation and the chance to manage the interpersonal relationships with your team mates. Buy this!
