I enjoyed the books, slightly disjointed, but the emotional impact is strong. Good thriller showing the seedier side of Sweden. Stieg Larsson is a fantastic writer, this is a good page turner couldn't put it down.Report this review
not really a fan of subtitles but got to say that this is an exception to my rule. Thrilling, totally enthralling and scary to bootReport this review
For a movie adaptation, this is reasonably true to the "heavily plotted" (whatever that means) book. Lisbeth Salander is a little toned down, a little less brilliant. Mikael Blomkvist receives less than his due, as his relations with his magazine staff and with the two other women he's involved with in the book get practically no attention. Still, the action moves along nicely and the main themes--justice that happens due to strength of character, loyalty, persistence, the value of intelligence in both men and women--are brought out clearly, which makes it satisfying in the end.Report this review
A MUST see for those of you who are fans of realism, grittiness and mystery. This film had me glued to the sofa for the entire film. Not only was the leading actress (Noomi Rapace) absolutely divine as the troubled and violent, yet vulnerable young woman but the twists and turns will leave you reeling. A must seeReport this review
I don't usually go for films with subtitles but this was gripping from the beginning to the end with, great twists and an edge of your seat plot which keeps you on the edge of your seat.Report this review
I watched the video last night and thought it was good. Not every thing I hoped for but I did sit through the entire movie and i did find it interesting. There are explicit scenes in the film that does not leave much to the imagination but I suspect that the sex scenes were toned down because the graphic descriptions in the text version were too intense. The scope of the evil was not well defined. Perhaps that will wait until the second movie. It was interesting to see how the various females coped with the sexual violence - one character had a breakdown and spent her life in an institution, another character ran away, and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo learned to fight back. Final note: I was enchanted by the female lead and was glad that the extras included an English language interview with Noomi that presented her without the goth makeup.Report this review
Based on the book by Stieg Larsson, this is a Swedish film about an investigative journalist who is hired by a wealthy man to find out who murdered his niece. The journalist ends up roping in a goth with a photographic memory and computer hacker skills to help him. She is probably on the autistic spectrum and we see her dealing with some personal issues but she is incredibly tough and smart. She is an interesting character of cult status. The film can get very dark and scary. It is not for the faint-hearted and deals with some difficult sexual and murder issues, but the characters retain humanity and likeability, particularly the journalist, who is refreshingly normal-looking. The murder-mystery is taut and competently done. It doesn't have too predictable a feeling about it in that it has a few twists to it and it links in some European modern history. I would definitely recommend this. This had me gripped and was never boring.Report this review
Went with my husband (55) to see this at our local cinema and it is a visually stunning film the story is a bit familiar but i think it is more my husbands thing than mine it was an enjoyable evening and i think if you like this genre of film you would love it but i would probably leave him to it if he wanted watch it again :)Report this review
This is a great film, however it is definitely not for the faint hearted as it has several rather brutal scenes, if you can stomach those it is a impressive film. I am looking forward to the next instalment!Report this review
