Christmas 1919. Downton Abbey is hosting a lavish Christmas party, yet despite being the season of goodwill, tensions are rife and Bates’s arrest has cast a shadow over the festivities. Will he be a condemned man or will he be found innocent in time to dance with his new wife at the annual servants’ ball? Mary has to consider her future with Sir Richard Carlisle following a contretemps at the shooting party and Violet has concerns about Rosamund, whose new suitor - the dashing but raffish Lord Hepworth, is not all he seems.

I never feel let down by Julian Fellows' fantastic Downton Abbey. The christmas special was no exception. It has left me wanting more!! The wonderful Dame Maggie Smith is a pure delight to watch and her sometimes witty comments are so right for her character. Poor old John Bates and Anna! I hope that story line ends well. The cast were all, as always, superb. The only down side I feel, was Nigel Havers, as he seems to play the same character type in all of his latest ventures. On the whole a thorougly enjoyable drama.
I found the Christmas special of Downton Abbey just as exciting as the first two series. A perfect gateway into series three. The acting was great & the costumes were wonderful. Great attention to detail. All in all, a wonderful viewing experience.
Just about everyone was talking about Downton Abbey so I put it on my wish list for Christmas and wasn't disappointed. A great series with excellent actors. Maggie Smith was particularly outstanding. Then came the Christmas Special which was also 2 hours of brilliant viewing. Now I'm waiting for the 3rd series!
Only just got around to watching this - had it recorded on Sky box which blew up a couple of weeks ago so had to get the Dvd which was a good price at thehut. Great viewing and nice to have an uninterrupted flow, ie no adverts! All the usual characters and Nigel Havers! I recommend it!
Downton Abbey is one of the best series ever, the whole cast are absolutely amazing. I bought Series 1 not knowing if I would like it, but by the first episode I was hooked. Therefore immediately purchasing Series 2 and the Special. I have a very large DVD collection full of different box sets and I can say this is definitely one of the best series ever made. This DVD is a brilliant tie up of everything that has happened in the last 2 series, and I heavily recommend it.
Brilliant Christmas special and a great finale to the second series. British period drama at its best!
