Legolas's elf eyes see a bargain lads and lasses. With a whopping 15 Bluray disks even if you cant sit through the 11 hours of film and 30 something hours of special features you can the disks for a variety of functions such as; Coasters, hip jewelry, baby mobile, several frizbees and much much more. You aren't just paying for one of the best film trilogies of all time, Your paying for endless hours of fun and adventure.
With brilliant sight and sound and each extended edition the length of two standard movies, immerse yourself in Middle Earth while awaiting the Hobbit trilogy. A wealth of extras (in Standard Definition) will almost take a lifetime to pore through are mostly for the hardened fan. The Hut had this set at the best price around!
The Lord of the Rings are a cinematic masterpiece, easily the best movie trilogy of the greatest story ever written! This is a must buy for everyone!
The picture isn't astounding, in fact it's pretty grainy and blurred. Compared them to the last Star Wars film the picture quality is so-so. Sound is good, not had a chance to test it on proper surround sound but with 6.1 surround DTS Master Audio it should sound great. What they are very clever not to mention is how each film comes as a 5 disc set, of which only 2 are actual Blu-ray discs. The extras (9 discs in total across all three films) are actually on DVDs.
The only problem I had with this box-set is that all the movies are split between two disks each. I remember that on the laser-disk format, but Blu-Ray? To me it seems like it was the only way to make a bigger box-set. Apart from that it is a fantastic set with tonnes of extras.
The best and only version you should consider buying if you can afford the price tag. The 26 hours of extras are fascinating - definitely worth the money.
Much like the complete Star Wars saga, there are some titles that are must-owns for Blu-ray fans. This epic set captures all the latest HD picture quality and HD audio via the blu ray format in full 1080 quality. This extended version of the trilogy adds a significant amount of footage to each film as well as several discs packed with extra features, commentaries, and so-on. The set itself even looks impressive in it's shiny ring coloured packaging; resembling an old novel almost. I would recommend this for fans of Tolken as well as fans of Blu-ray or if you just like a good epic fantasy tale.
