This is without doubt the best story of Dracula... It begins with an absolute reason for Dracula to curse at God himself for allowing the death of his beloved. Gary Oldman is in his prime here, sometimes Hamming it up, just to elaborate the character. He does it with so much passion that you can overlook the dramatics... Anthony Hopkins plays the role of an older Van Helsing... I can never watch another movie with him in it without recalling this role, I suppose that either means he keeps repeating this role (as in the Wolfman) or it is such a great role that he cannot depart from it? Keanu Reaves is hard pushed in his role as Jonathan Harker, he seems a bit stiff and pushes his lines at his fellow actors, but this could be deliberate to represent the characters of the era... The film is really a love, tragedy come horror... The effects are good, the acting absorbing and the Annie Lennox soundtrack is hauntingly beautiful. A classic horror with true love as its foundation creates something that will last for generations. This is a movie for your home collection, in BluRay everything's enhanced to perfection.
