I have played plenty of FPS games over the years, and almost every COD game to completion. However battlefield never really caught on with me as I preferred single player to multiplayer I've never bought a copy. BF4 has changed that! I rented it for the single player, and bought it for the multiplayer. The campaign is short (good for a weekend), but with good variety to it and it's re-playable enough to go back and mop up any missed achievements. The levels can be completed in different ways so you don't have to stick "to the rails" all the time. You can take to RPGs and explosives on the levels with tanks (its kind of easier that way on the hardest difficulty) or when you're given or spot an empty tank it's great fun. There's something for everyone, with a "stealthy" mission for an exfil, close quarters battles on ships and alleyways, more open-field battles, and piloting attack boats and a variety of land vehicles. My only criticism would be you don't get to fly in the campaign. On the other hand unlike games such as COD and GRAW which give you high-tech gadgetry, this game feels so much more authentic. You get gadgets, but it feels like the kind of stuff a real soldier might get, which makes it that bit more gritty and down-to-earth. The multiplayer is the core of the game that will keep you wanting more. With 64 players it doesn't matter anywhere near as much when you have a bad round and it gives you the room to learn the game whilst your experienced team mates carry on to win the game. Your role can be as small or as big as you like. You can support the team with covering fire and resupply, be a medic, focus on taking out enemy vehicles, drive tanks/anti-air/jeeps/boats amongst others, take to the sky in a variety or aircraft, or be sniper support. You're separated into squads so it's like playing traditional team-based FPS multiplayer, but within a much bigger fight. It's a war compared to the small skirmish in other games. Maps range from bay side cityscapes to wide open desert and everything in between. On Locker or Metro you'll be faced with utter chaos and close quarters combat that can get completely crazy; you'll need a medic on your squad with the number of grenades going boom when 64 players clash at a couple of doorways/stairwells! It's a great fix for those used to less open battlefields, which are a whole different experience and why this game offers such great mutliplayer game play. I've not yet managed to get to trying the other multiplayer modes the traditional "conquest" has been so much fun. Go premium, it's worth it for the 2 DLC packs already out as of March 2014, and the 3rd coming this month. The boost packs you get also speed up your progression and it's nice to have a few gun mods unlocked if you're starting later - you receive all the back dated ones so it's never too late to jump in!
