Description

The PS Vita is the feverishly anticipated portable console brought to you by PlayStation. Two versions of this ingenious handheld have been released, the PS Vita with Wi-Fi, and the PS Vita with both 3G mobile broadband and Wi-Fi enabled. The PS Vita has been engineered to be the best of the best when it comes to both entertainment and gaming, with this keenly developed internet connectivity also providing an incredible social experience.

The PS Vita has completely revolutionised handheld gameplay with the use of two touch panels, along with a front and rear camera. The front and main screen is a five inch OLED (organic light emitting diode) touchscreen, which provides the best quality visuals possible, all graphics revamped and giving the user a visually stunning gaming experience. The rear of the portable system is a touchpad, creating possibly the most innovatively developed handheld console to date. Combined, this duo have engineered the most unique multi-touch gameplay around, as players can directly interact with their games through "touch, grab, trace, push and pull" motions with the use of their fingers on the pad and screen.

As has never been seen before, the PS Vita has also incorporated the dual analogue sticks you would find on the typical PlayStation controller. This means that a much wider range of games can now be featured on this portable entertainment console, including highly sought out first person shooter titles and so much more, allowing you to have the best gaming experience possible with the amount of options now available to you. These options even stretch out to being able to play PSP titles, minis and PS one classics via download from the PlayStation Network on the PS Vita, rolling all of the best of the past in to the future of PlayStation.

The social aspect includes allowing you to connect with all of your friends, wherever they are in the world using the PS Vita system. Through this, you will also have the ability to both play and share with them, as you would with the regular PlayStation Network, with which the PS Vita is compatible; and this includes mobile PlayStation trophy support, perfect for all you trophy hunters out there. There is also the enabled cross platform connectivity, which means that data is now transferable between the PS Vita and the PS3. Additional media support also includes the 4 core CPU, as well as the flash card media support for game and media saves, not to mention the built-in three-axis gyroscope, three-axis accelerometer and GPS functionality. As is evident, the PS Vita brings an incredible amount of features, aspects and gameplay that will revolutionise this generation's handheld consoles. (Cat Emerson)

The Vita deserves a lot of credit

I've had my Vita since the release and overall it's been a very enjoyable gadget. The screen quality in particular is fantastic, and now that social apps such as Skype and YouTube have become available, a new dimension has been added to the device. Videos look incredible on YouTube (in HD), compared with a phone or even my fairly powerful PC. The selection of games is perhaps the Vita's downfall however. People do not seem too keen to develop for it, and I feel this is holding it back. I know no one else who owns one and this tells a story in itself. Some of the mini games available on the PSN are really poor quality, but there are some neat free games and some good buys on there too. It's nice to have the option of playing old PSP games, although it would be easier if I'd owned a PSPGO rather than the original. Another big problem is the price of the memory cards, it's as if Sony doesn't want you to download from them. Not much else to say other than they're disgustingly overpriced, and I have had mine lose connection before and I feared my games had corrupted, but luckily they escaped intact, even if the icons were all jumbled. The interface is fine and it's a very quick machine for gaming and using apps (web browsing, on the other hand...) but as it's a games console we should really be looking at that. It's an excellent games console. The only gripes I have are the slightly difficult to use analogue sticks, and the fact that my left bumper button is a little tough to press... it doesn't always recognise my push! However, apart from the little gripes, this is a fantastic system, it just needs more games.

PS Vita (Wi-Fi Enabled)

Anyone who has a PS3 or a PSP should feel very familiar with the PSV. All the PS3 controls are there although some of the buttons are smaller. Add to that the 'touch' capabilities on both front and back with support for gestures and the gaming possibilities are almost endless. Because of its high resolution, there can be a lot happening at the same time on the PSV's screen and, don't forget, you can also feel the action while playing. I don't feel like doing comparisons at this time but anyone who claims that the PSV is no big deal because we can play games on our phones should experience the PSV and then consider revising their statements. Vita can easily play any game that a phone can play and Vita can do just about everything a smart phone or tablet can do and most of the time do it better. and let's not forget that the Vita costs a less than most smart phones. I haven't had time to explore all of Vita's features yet but, they're all in there. Multimedia, wireless connectivity, music playback... it's all in there. Add to that one of the best laid out, intuitive and responsive user interfaces and even non gamers should be happy to have a Vita around. Oh and... I don't really like sharing our Vita with the kids at this time but I have to.

The Handheld for Serious Gamers

The PS Vita is the third gaming handheld to be released in this generation (alongside the 3DS and iPod Touch 4G), and its remarkably different in its scope than the other two. Out of the three, its possibly the best. Fundamentally the system was designed to play games more suited to the ones for "Hardcore Gamers" (like those available on the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360) rather than the "Casual" and "Non-Gamer" markets the 3DS and iPod Touch are focusing on. The result is you get much higher quality games like Wipeout and Uncharted you would play for long sessions rather than short session games like Angry Birds and glorified tech demos like Nintendogs. As well as playing games, the PS Vita has media playback functions (Music, Video, Pictures), an Internet browser, front and back cameras, Applications for Facebook and Twitter, and AR Games. Freely downloadable is the application "Paint Park", which allows you to paint pictures digitally with the touchscreen, either alone or sharing the canvas with friends a la OpenCanvas. The build quality is nice, although weightier and larger than the other two systems. It fits nicely in your hands though and I never got RSI from playing it unlike the 3DS. The only serious problem it has (and the reason i'm not giving it 5 stars) is that you have to get a system-exclusive memory card separately for £17+, and the games are more expensive than those on iOS. But apart from this, I recommend the system.

Nothing like a new Sony product

There is nothing like opening a new Sony product. The PS Vita is the best handheld ever. FACT. This really deserves to do well, however, the price tag may be a high barrier to entry along with the highish price of the games. What has to be remembered is that Vita games are fully involving and totally engrossing games. It really is like having a PS3 in your hands.

It's not a PSP

I've been wanting the Vita since I first heard about it. I purchased my PSP long ago on launch day, and it's beginning to get a little jaded from all the years, and games seem to have dried up on that format. The Vita may prove to be a tad pricey to most, especially in these times of watching the pennies, but if you can afford it and you really want it, get it. Be aware though that you do need a memory card also and you will need a case of some kind, and a screen protector. I only have a couple of slight grumbles with the Vita, the dual sticks are great but i think a bit too close to the (very small) buttons. I usually find myself hitting X and O at the same time. Curse my sausage fingers and thumbs! Also the USB/power socket is on the bottom of the device, I think top would have been better. On the whole though, if you are on the fence, I would certainly recommend getting one.

Vita Console

The PS Vita is a great console with some strong release titles. If you're into gaming then this is the best handheld there is. I already own a 3DS and it's good but the technology is not even close to Sony's new PS Vita. If you want gaming on the move then this is the one to take. iPads and the like are OK but they dont offer the same experience as this.

Ps vita

Playstation vita is an upcoming, 8th generation of video game handheld console from Sony. Has 4x graphics improvement compared to its predessesor, PSP. Undoutble the fastest among the portables, such as nintendo 3ds and psp E1000. One of the best feature is definitely the dual anolouge sticks. Sony has nailed it this time. The Ps VIta will be in top of the chart for years to come and its worth every penny.
