    Release Date: 25 November 2011

The Lord of the Rings: War in the North is a co-op Action RPG that immerses you and your friends in a brutal new chapter in the War of the Ring. Snowblind Studios is in the unique position of drawing inspiration from both the literary and film rights to world of Middle-earth, allowing players to bloody their axes on a wide range of deadly enemies and traverse both established and never-before-seen locations. The result is a journey that is both epic and intimate, familiar yet unexpected.

    Features:

    • Action Meets RPG: Intense, visceral, and satisfying combat. Rich, layered, and impactful character progression. In War in the North, you get both. Find and equip the best loot, upgrade your hero using a wide range of skills and items, and feel the intense satisfaction of rushing into real-time battles with friends by your side. Fight through the brutal realities of the war on all fronts that were brought to life in the lore. Immerse yourself and make your own mark on Middle-earth.
    • Co-Op At Its Core: Build your own fellowship of three heroes to confront the growing army in the North. The survival of your group and all of Middle-earth depends upon your uniquely skilled heroes working together. You must fight together or you will die alone, and these high stakes make the experience of playing together both socially engaging and incredibly satisfying. The first time you rescue a friend who has been grabbed by a troll and is desperately yelling for help, you will understand what we mean.
    • An Untold Story: While much attention and focus has been placed on the journey of the One Ring, the assault on Middle-earth hits all corners of the map. War in the North turns our attention towards an integral part of the storyline that is grounded in details within the books and various appendices. This is not someone else’s fight. This is your own effort to forage a way through the dark, dangerous, and unknown landscape, defending all that is yours. This is your war.

    The War In The North

Lord Of The Rings: War In The North is an epic tale of adventure and a thrilling experience. Bring your sword crashing down on hordes of orcs, let loose your arrows or smite foes with powerful elven magic. Explore alone or with another player in split-screen the northern lands of Tolkien's Middle Earth, questing into caves, dark forests, snowy peaks, and some familiar locations like the village of Bree. Combat-wise, this is the most graphic Lord Of The Rings game to date; a sword slashing, shield bashing, projectile hurling master piece. Play as one of three characters, each with their own fighting skills - changing every mission if you like. Customise your appearance, your weapons, spells and dialogue options. In battle shift seamlessly between close-combat, archery and spell-casting, all of which are very satisfying. Lose yourself in a truly immersive world, with a clear story that requires no previous knowledge of the books or movies - though you will find some extra pleasure exploring areas if you have read Tolkien’s works. Technically the game is fine, with good graphics that show the beautiful world in fair detail, and a frame rate that is consistently smooth. A top purchase. The best action-orientated Lord Of The Rings game so far.

    Hit and a Miss??

The graphics are honestly nothing amazing, yet not bad, it's what you have come to expect from these type of film base titles games. It's similar to Dragon Age: Origins for character design and background. The music suits the game, from battle music to your standard background music. It all compliments and adds to the atmosphere of this game pulling you into the Tolkien world. The storyline is the hit and miss part of this game and I believe you must ask yourself this one key question - are you a fan of LOTR? If you are this is an amazing game and really great to see a diffrent side of the war rather than the already over-done same war. Usual same choice of characters ranger, elf and dwarf with an rpg/hack and slash feel to it leveling up as you go. If you're not a fan then it's still a good game. The one downside to this is its short, and I mean short story. I've done 3 playthroughs in one day. A good game for the right price whether a fan or not, but a must have if you are a fan of Tolkiens world.
