A damn good remake

Truly, if you played Halo back then, you have to buy this one too. It's a very nostalgic trip - it's somewhat like back in the days. The multiplayer is actually really fun too, although there are just six maps for it. If you have reach, you can export the maps via a code to your hard drive, so that you can play them through Halo: Reach directly. Really worth the price.

Halo CE Evolved

I missed this game when it first cam out. I am so glad that I have taken the time to look at it now - a perfect pre-Christmas present. Combat Evolved has everything you expect from Halo, but also has the potential to go 'retro' (back button. You will enjoy it.

Gleaming Open Vistas Galore

Halo did change gaming for certain, due to its relentless popularity as Xbox's flagship. Its innovation was in no mere singular feature, but rather the sum of parts which proves truly harmonious. The fiction is world-class, which always helps a franchise to achieve the kind of impact and longevity that Halo has enjoyed. The story itself does rather draw you in with ease, playing with ambitious set-pieces, non-linearity and sharply written cut-scenes. The gameplay nowadays may seem familiar - but what's wrong with that? This game was the definitive intelligent FPS of its generation - limiting your options to two weapons plus eight grenades max. It's smooth, instinctive and totally at home in this sleek, immersive experience. So, the new stuff. The remastered soundtrack is gorgeous, as are the new age graphics - everything just looks amazing. But more important is the faithfulness to the original game. This IS the original game. All the original code is there, as well as a graphics layer and the two options of soundtrack (plus some other extras). You can even switch between the two sets of graphics and music mid-play to compare the two. After a while in-game, you'll start to realise just how much more the gaming industry knows about digital art than it did eleven years ago. All in all, this edition ends up being even more of a celebration than it sets out to be. Yes, Halo is a memorable gaming experience that can still surprise us after over ten years since its release, but playing this game can make you realise so much more. This shows 343's understanding of the universe and it certainly shows the calibre of their work to be exciting for the prospect of Halo 4.

Halo: Anniversary

In 2001 the game Halo made history. It's up there with Goldeneye 64 and Call Of Duty. 343 have made the remake remarkably good. Everything is up to scratch and it even has a few nods to the ingenuity of fans e.g. inventing the crouch jump to get past a vehicle level on foot. However Normal difficulty back in 2001 means Insane Difficulty on Gears Of War today! Overall very impressed with 343s first attempt at a full scale Halo game, but I miss Bungie.

Great Nostalgia Factor

If you played the first Halo on the old xbox, you'll enjoy replaying it in high def. if you have a kinect sensor enabled, you gain the ability to switch between 'classic' and 'remastered' graphic modes which allows you to see the change in detail. Great fun - Looking forward to the new game!!!

A big improvement.

The graphics on this game are far better than the original and they have added in a few background actions and things like that that you'll only notice if you played the original. This game is an amazing price (cheaper than amazon) and arrived quickly. The master chief Armour included as a DLC was a nice touch. A must for old fans and new gamers alike.

Combat Evolved... Even now?

10 years after first playing this game, it still holds up. Halo 1 had one of, IMO, the best single player stories of the series. The music, pacing and indeed story telling were all amazingly well put together. What made it even better was the year it came out... An xbox launch title, no less. But 10 years have passed since then. Does this remake hold up? Short answer... No. Not really. While the graphics are "ok", it really falls short in many areas, and while its certainly a huge step above what Halo 1 looked (You can toggle between the two visual styles at any time by pressing the BACK button), its still nowhere near the visual quality of any modern games. Still, thats to be expected, as this isn't really a remake... Its simply a fresh lick of paint. Gameplay wise, it remains unchanged to the classic original. Its pretty easy to spot that if you liked the original, warts and all, then you will like this one. It even has coop over Live, which is a lovely addition. But the addition of skulls and terminals isn't enough, and it suffers a lot for this. Games have grown up and matured along the last decade, and while some people may say everything started with Halo when it came to story telling, it shows its age badly here. Add to that a very poor MP component that consists of simply sticking the Halo Reach MP on the disk and giving you a few remade maps, and you have a rather odd package. As a full price game? no. Its lacking, big time. But for £20, the price I spent on it? Fantastic value, and £25-£25 is the exact price this should be, simply due to the fact its nothing new, its not even a major remake... Its a graphics update. A great game, a classic even, but with nothing new, I can't rate it above other titles out at the moment.
