What does the American Dream mean today?
For Niko Bellic fresh off the boat from Europe, it is the hope he can escape his past. For his cousin, Roman, it is the vision that together they can find fortune in Liberty City, gateway to the land of opportunity. As they slip into debt and get dragged in a criminal underworld by a series of shysters, thieves and sociopaths, they discover that the reality is very different from the dream in a city that worships money and status, and is heaven for those who have them and a living nightmare for those who don't.

The GTA IV in general is a good game.
This game is the best of all free world games ever made. The story line is very impressive. The game multiplayer mode too, you can play online with your friends like in a real world. Rockstar has remarkably copied some parts of NY. When you are playing, you feel that you are going trough the real NY. The Physics of the game engine are much improved since GTA SA. Also the game has two expansions - Liberty City. I've been playing GTA 4 since it was released and its not boring yet. That means that the game is worth every penny!
A superb single-player story mode and online support for up to 16 players make this the best Grand Theft Auto game yet. Stepping off a boat in the shoes of illegal immigrant Niko Bellic as he arrives in Liberty City at the start of Grand Theft Auto IV, you can tell immediately that Rockstar North's latest offering is something quite special. Yes, this is another GTA game in which you'll likely spend the bulk of your time stealing cars and gunning down cops and criminals, but it's also much more than that. GTA IV is a game with a compelling and nonlinear storyline, a game with a great protagonist who you can't help but like, and a game that boasts a plethora of online multiplayer features in addition to its lengthy story mode. It's not without some flaws, but GTAIV is undoubtedly the best Grand Theft Auto yet.
I bought Grand Theft Auto 4 for my son as he had played it at a friend's house and really enjoyed it. He finds it a bit hard but likes the challenge.
This game is absolutely amazing. That is exactly the reason I WAS going to rate it 5 stars. However, the game is missing one tiny thing. I have done a tally. I asked 20 people what was missing from Grand Theft Auto 4. Seventeen people said the experience of driving an air plane. Three said the lag on the online experience game-play. But, personally, I have absolutely no problems playing online apart from the air planes not being able to be driven. So I hope Rockstar have put drivable air planes onto the next Grand Theft Auto.
Before GTA: IV I had never really taken any notice of the Grand Theft Auto series but after seeing a clip I realised I had to get it and Oh, was it worth it. This is one of the best games have ever played on. Balancing your love life with a life of crime, murder and violence is a skill you must develop as you progress through the game playing as Niko Bellic a Russian immigrant with a troubled past. Working with his cousin, Roman he works as a hired gun in Liberty City, earning money as he goes along. All in all the is a fantastic game and I would reccomend it to any gamer.
This game is mega.you go round shooting and stealing cars.It feels very real and you really get into it.you can play with upto 16 mates on line.really good game, buy it.
There really is no genre to list this game in as it stands alone ... and stands tall! Fancy going out on a robbery? Or a drive-by? How about minding a drug deal? How about riding a helicopter, or a speed boat, or a high powered motorbike or car? No probs ... just TAKE IT! This game is so original. It's one of those ones where you think to yourself ... "no they didn't????". It really is a work of art and you will find yourself in fits of laughter at some of things you get up to. Just driving around in a car (and there are maaaany to choose from) is fun while you take in the city and tune the radio to your own liking. I could go on and on about this game but the bottom line is that you are this new guy on the block who want to be a big time gangster and basically you are "available for work" to all and sundry and if you do well when given work, more work comes your way. This is such a unique title and it really would be a crime for you to let it pass you by (excuse the pun!). Buy it, enjoy it, get involved ...
(Rockstar's magnum opus) Reception of this game a few years back consisted of the usual geriatric scorn at a GTA title, as well as the massive critical acclaim. Ths term is often lazily plastered onto the covers of second rate DVDs, but here I mean just that: critics loved it. You can check for yourself, but most reviewers gave it their own five star equivalent. But what's special about this game? Well, it's quite hard to pin down one (and you'll forgive the term) "USP." To be honest, it does bear many similarities to other Grand Theft Auto titles from the past, but then again, they are a series, so that's to be expected. It's the differences that make this title shine. Firstly, I think it's only appropriate to cover gameplay. This game has a huge variety of tasks for the player to attempt. There are over 90 excellent story missions, all varied and interesting in their own right, and I can't in fact name a single bad mission. But we'll get to that later. What else will GTA IV have you up to. Well, aside from aimless carjacking and destruction, there are many other jobs to keep you busy until the cows come home. To name a small fraction, there are car theft missions, assassination missions, races, pigeons to exterminate, and my personal favourite random pedestrian encounters. Secondly, and almost as important, is the story. Many video games, especially in genres of violence or "bad boy prestige" have limited, dull or otherwise terrible pantomimes as the motivation for Character X to be blowing stuff up. As you have no doubt guessed, I find the story of Niko to be interesting, engaging, and as true as the works of Danny Boyle. The "pedigree" if you will, of Rockstar works of late derives purely from the tone and focus found in their games. GTA IV is a prime example of this: this story is based on people, and ultimately, much of the plot elicits a surprising amount of emotion, and all the characters are flawed and deep - even if not immediately apparent. Niko, for example, is no insufferable badass or white knight. We learn that he has done bad things, which he regrets, but he is constantly a likeable and relatable character. One huge asset is the placing of elements of choice throughout the storyline. Admittedly, these aren't as prevalent as in games like Fallout 3, but they do have large consequences, and are beautifully integrated into the plot. Obviously this gives the game more replayability than many other console titles, and provides some big shocks along the way. I personally find that this game should be looked at as a particular medium to tell the incredible story. As for the setting, Liberty City, very few game worlds live up to the immersiveness and, oddly enough, charm of the NYC satire R* have crafted. It uses a fair amount of near-realism in its infrastructure, with parodical versions of major landmarks, and humorous AI pedestrians. Also, one is never allowed to forget that R* gave this game a desert-dry sense of humour, something that creeps into most aspects of the world. In all honesty, I think that one could spend an entire gaming session wandering around the streets, listening to the bizarre conversations and taking in the many details of the never-banal cityscape. It seems fair to mention graphics at this point. I'm no obsessive fanboy on the matter, but I find IV's visuals very effective. For such a huge and detailed map, the graphics are sharp and attractive at close range, and cleverly impressionistic at range, with colour in every corner. Rockstar haven't aimed for total fractal symmetry, simply an interesting way to depict a city that exudes life. In conclusion, I find this to be one of the best games ever created. This is the only game I constantly return to, a rarity for me, and each time I play the game I find new and fascinating things that I had barely noticed previously. In my opinion, few people could fail to like this game, as whatever your tastes and preferences, there is something to be liked here. I was in fact amazed that a game outside of Nintendo's hands could deliver such a unique and memorable experience.
This isbrilliant and fun to play. Ideal for people who like missions and online free rome.
It is a very nice game. Really good story, good graphics, good online features and a good price too. It's a long game - you always have plenty to do.
I have been an avid admirer of the grand theft auto series, playing the early games on the playstation in the above shot view very much like chinatown wars on the DS. There has never been a dull or even moderately average GTA, I have loved every one of them. This is the first I have completed in the series, and my oh my is it exceptional. With so many people so many choices, a soundtrack to die for, some cool clothes to dress in, some heavenly weaponry, gorgeous cars, clever cops, draw dropping sceneries, and funny cool slick brilliant missions... holy crap this game is amazing. I've finished all the story missions and am now searching out all the side missions and they too are brilliant. I would recommend this game to all console owners. This is no only the best game of all time, but the best game series ever. Genius.
