Great game-series

As always Assassins creed is a great game. In this latest game they capture the same feeling of freedom as in the other games. For me it took about 20-25 hours of effective playing-time to beat the game, which is in my opinion very long these days. The game would have gotten a fifth star if it managed to capture the immersion of the previous games but as it is very similar to the previous games it just can't. That being said, this is still a game with a lot more features than the other games, one being ship-to-ship combat!

Good but bad

There are some great things about Assassin's Creed 3. The improvements are pretty practical, and very welcome. The ability to crouch in long grass/bushes is long overdue, as is the ability to hover at the edge of a wall/surface for a tactical view. Your assassin can also whistle whilst in hiding to distract guards away from key locations. It all feels a bit more tactical than before. Secondly, the scenery is stunning and combat is also satisfyingly visceral and punchy. However, as you go through the AC series, the storyline gets more and more ridiculous. Also, the controls are fiddly, awkward and take a lot of getting used to. The game and the player also have to adapt to guns. The ability to use enemies as meat shields is hugely entertaining, but difficult to pull off consistently. All in all, the game tries to be stellar but ends up being a mish-mash of beautiful graphics that are let down by poor implementation. Either way, I would still recommend this title.

Brilliant campaign, not so much for multiplayer

Assassin's Creed games have always been the dog's pajamas, and this title is no exception! The one thing that really disappoints me, though, is the multiplayer. I still feel that Ubisoft haven't nailed it yet. They were closer in Revelations, but that still had its "fail" moments. This time, Ubisoft have decided to move the multiplayer to a separate disk (meaning you get two disks: campaign and multiplayer). Also, they have stripped down the "Animus" and rebuilt it into a black shadowy enigma that doesn't really navigate all that well, in my opinion. What was wrong with the white GUI? It was much clearer to navigate and to look at. Now I feel like the clean appearance is gone in favour for a more gritty, deeper, darker experience. I don't think this was really necessary. At least give us a choice? Switch between black or white menu screens. That would work! Also, the abilities that you can use in-game have become more ludicrous. And the maps are nothing compared to Ezio's vatican world in Brotherhood and Revelations. The Animus Core? Worst AC map ever, IMO. Just a little disappointed by this. Just want to quickly cover the 1GB bracelet bonus for those who are curious. The USB casing is metal, weighty and solid. The bracelet is held together by a magnet in the metal casing. The strap is a double stitched leather band. All in all the whole construction feels sturdy, but doesn't rest upon your wrist naturally. I'm also skeptical about the whole thing falling from my wrist should I make any drastic movements. It's still quite useful though. More useful than a bonus weapon or character skin.
