The classic sword fighting title has hit next generation consoles, along with a number of surprising new character additions.
The original Soul Calibur was released on SEGA’s Dreamcast, and was a true leap in fighting visuals and technology. Namco has continued this fine pedigree with subsequent releases, and with Soul Calibur IV has once again raised the bar. Much like Soul Calibur II (which contained a number of popular characters from other famous games), several surprising players crop up during play. Namco has forged the Soul Calibur universe with Star Wars, and now evil emperor Darth Vader is fully playable, with trusty lightsaber in hand.
Soul Calibur’s impressive roster of old characters has also made a return, including mighty powerhouses Astaroth and Nightmare, as well as lighter, more agile fighters such as Sophitia and Mitsurugi. For the first time in a Soul Calibur title players can jump online and play against one another using characters and arenas from the single player mode.
Soul Calibur IV refines the smooth fighting mechanics and stunning visuals of previous titles in series and adds a number of unique new characters, making this the new benchmark of Soul Calibur games.
The ever expanding roster of characters grows with new fighters including Hilde, Scheherazade and Angol Fear, as well as PlayStation 3 exclusive character Darth Vader from Star Wars.
For the first time ever, fight opponents around the world online in multiple versus modes.
New fighting system elements include active matching battles, and equipment destruction.
Welcome back to the stage of History, it's Soulcalibur IV on PlayStation 3.
In Soulcalibur IV, the epic struggle between the spirit sword, Soul Calibur, and the cursed sword, Soul Edge, continues with revelations about this ongoing story as fighters from across the galaxy seek the powerful swords for their own goals and to face the ultimate judgment. Propelling the series into the next generation, Soulcalibur IV flexes its graphical muscles to shows its visual brilliance with a new look for both allies and enemies.
Shown with true High Definition graphics, Soulcalibur IV offers an entirely new battle system that promises to revolutionise the fighting genre. Featuring an expanded customisation mode, Soulcalibur IV allows players to personalise a character to look and perform as they desire. Also, for the first time in the franchise, customised characters or original favourites can be taken online to challenge others for the top spot of this timeless series. Developed by Project Soul, the legendary team behind Soul Blade and Soulcalibur I to III, Soulcalibur IV is set to reinvent the series and reintroduce the fighting genre to new and existing fans alike.
