From the critically acclaimed director, Hideo Kojima, Metal Gear Solid HD Collection offers a handful of the most popular Metal Gear Solid titles from the past in true HD for the first time ever. Featuring three complete games, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, the HD Collection offers old and new fans a chance to experience the epic game play, design and storytelling of the MGS franchise.
The "Metal Gear Solid (MGS)" series is the seminal work of Hideo Kojima, Japan's master game creator, and the progenitor of the stealth action game genre. The series has become a global phenomenon, with over 27 million copies sold worldwide. The player controls a secret agent from an elite special forces unit who is sent on solo sneaking missions through enemy installations, vast jungles, and sometimes even the thick of battle. Alone and surrounded by the enemy, even a special forces agent will find it tough to come out alive. But that is the secret behind the series' popularity-the cerebral challenge of figuring out how to avoid combat, and the thrill of sneaking through enemy territory undetected.
The MGS series is also known for its storyline, which blends seamlessly with the gameplay. The scenarios are based on extensive research and incorporate the drama of actual developments in society.
These elements have made MGS what it is today: a mature work of entertainment that transcends national borders and the confines of video games, and one of the leading products of the Japanese content business.
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons Of Liberty
After the Shadow Moses incident, technological data on the nuclear-armed walking tank Metal Gear leaks onto the black market. Solid Snake and his allies form the anti-Metal Gear NGO "Philanthropy" and set out in pursuit of a tanker carrying a new Metal Gear prototype. But Snake falls into a trap set by former FOXHOUND member Ocelot, and is believed lost along with the tanker at the bottom of the Hudson River. Two years later, the Big Shell, an oil spill cleanup facility constructed on the bay, is taken over by terrorists led by a man claiming to be the long-lost Solid Snake. The government sends Raiden, a new recruit in the new FOXHOUND, to infiltrate the Big Shell and rescue the US President, who is held hostage inside... The underlying theme of this second entry in the series is "memes," or cultural genes.
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
The story shifts back in time to 1964, the height of the Cold War. Naked Snake-the man who would later become the legendary mercenary known as Big Boss-heads into Soviet territory to help the scientist Sokolov defect to the West. But the mission ends in failure due to the betrayal of Snake's mentor and mission advisor The Boss, a female soldier known as "the Mother of Special Forces." The Boss defects to the Soviet Union, taking a miniature nuclear warhead with her as a gift, which her new hosts promptly launch at a Russian research facility. Naked Snake heads once more into the Soviet Union on a mission to kill The Boss... The third MGS game tells the story of men and women who struggle to remain loyal even while their fates are at the mercy of the ever changing political "scene."
Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker
Stories tell of a legendary solider who once waged war against the world. His name was Naked Snake, a.k.a. Big Boss, and the truth behind this legend will finally be told. The era is the 1970's . Big Boss had stationed his soldiers in Colombia, South America, where he was approached by visitors from Costa Rica, a "nation without a military." In the shadow of the Cuban Missile Crisis, as Latin America became a key to maintaining the power balance between East and West, Costa Rica had miraculously managed to maintain its peace and neutrality. However, in various regions of the country, a mysterious armed force seemed to be engaging in suspicious activities. Now, to preserve peace in this nation without a military, the soldiers move into action. In time, they would be known as the founders of "Outer Heaven."

This Metal Gear Solid HD Collection is a must have for every Metal Gear Solid fan. I am a big far of the series and I could not have missed this one. I'm currently playing MGS3 HD and believe me, the graphics, even for a PS2 game gone HD is amazing. Masterpieces from Hideo Kojima once again... 10/10
MGS HD Collection has been on my radar for quite some time now, and a few weeks ago, I finally purchased it and I am very happy I did so. I hadn't played MGS2 and Peace Walker yet, and only played a little of Snake Eater so this was the perfect opportunity to play these games in full regalia. MGS2 is a fantastic game with excellent graphics, a somewhat weird story but very intriguing nonetheless, the gameplay takes some time to get used to if you're used to MGS4 controls, it runs smoothly at 60 fps and is a very good game. MGS3 is a masterpiece of storytelling, one of the finest stories I've come across in playing videogames and as of now my 6th favorite game of all time. The graphics once again are excellent the frame rate is smooth, the camera is rotatable which I believe wasn't included in the original Snake Eater (Subsistence did have it though) and it just plays fantastic. If you play them in order of release, you should be accustomed to the controls and play through this a lot smoother than you did MGS2. It has a camo system and a stamina system which really add to the game in my opinion. MGS Peace Walker Looks really good considering it's a PSP game, the surroundings are like an ugly PS2 game, but the character models are actually really nice and surprisingly detailed. I haven't finished this one yet, but am about 75% in. The gameplay is very handheld-like with missions that last up to a few minutes (if it takes 5 minutes it's long, not counting boss fights). Throughout the game you can recruit new soldiers, mechanics, cooks, and even tanks. You can research new equipment and weapons with the mechanics with GMP, a currency you make through the soldiers. MGS Peace Walker also has online co-op and competitive multiplayer, not very live now but daily I see around 90 people online. Overall this game is definitely the most bang for your buck I've had this gen, so if you've been wanting to try this out I definitely suggest you do.
Metal Gear Solid HD Collection almost looks like a brand new game. The HD update is one of the best and plays like it's way ahead of its time because Kojima is a real genius. If you have not experienced these games, this is the best way to play them because it includes extra features like the option to change camera angles. Also, the excellent PSP Peace Walker makes a welcome experience on consoles with dual sticks. If you are a fan of Metal Gear, you need to buy this.
The three games: Metal Gear Solid 2, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and Metal Gear Solid Peace walker are all amazing games and if have not played them or wish to play them again I suggest you buy this. This collection not only includes those three games from the amazing Metal Gear series but it also included metal gear one and Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake. It nearly has the whole series in one package only missing Metal Gear Solid and if you have a PS3 you can buy on the store. If you like games with sillyness, great in depth stories, stealth and action you will should give this game/games a try.
If you are an MGS fan, you just can't miss this one. It is a really good product for all those people who are nostalgic and would like to play the oldest chapters, the new graphics make it more stimulant to play, and , speaking for MGS2, it contains also the Subsistence version, which includes all the VR training, so it should ensure a lot of playing time. In this bundle there's also the PSP version "Peace Walker" which is a really good product, it's not the usual MGS, it is a mix of espionage and strategy, 'cause you have to manage a mother base to improve your weapons and staff and prepare for the missions, which are playable in co-op with your friends. Then there's MGS3 Snake Eater, just the best MGS game to me along with the 1st chapter, which unfortunately isn't in this bundle.
Metal Gear needs no "review", you simply love or hate it but here we go... Hideo Kojima is a brilliant director and MGS is his finest creation (aside from ZoE). Each game is undeniably good for what it stands; if it's an espionage game, it's the best stealth game; i fit's a card game, it's an exceptionally different card game and so on. He never cease to amaze... This HD Collection created to bring all of MGS franchise to PS3 and X360 (except MGS4 which Sony hold dearest). MGS2 Substance and MGS3 Subsistence is added with polished graphics and widescreen support; Peace Walker is "PSP game gone better". It is a simple question really; "do i like MGS?" If yes; buy it at first sight. If not, you might well give it a new shot. If "What is MGS?", get the first one on PSN or PC or PS1. You'll probably not regret it.
So first off i should go and say that i love the Metal Gear franchise so it was an easy buy but, for all those that don't know this collection contains the extended versions of the games. You got the HD version of Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance (which includes 200+ VR missions and Snake Tales -side story missions- ) As well as the HD version of Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence (which includes the original camera perspective as well as the 3rd-person rotatable view camera for in-game gameplay, a full theater mode where you can view all in-game videos and the early releases Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake) And finally the HD version of the PSP version of Peace Walker (which supports online co-op) It's a great collection and a must have for anyone that's a true fan and anyone that has never played any of these games before. The price is well worth it when you consider all the content you have inside. As for trophies, yes you have them. A platinum for each game in fact! So if you're looking for some Metal Gear goodness, look no further.
