    Product Review

    Release Date: 20 November 2009

From the makers of Mass Effect, Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic, and Baldur's Gate comes an epic tale of violence, lust, and betrayal. The survival of humanity rests in the hands of those chosen by fate. You are a Grey Warden, one of the last of an ancient order of guardians who have defended the lands throughout the centuries. Betrayed by a trusted General in a critical battle, you must hunt down the traitor and bring him to justice.

As you fight your way towards the final confrontation with an evil nemesis, you will face monstrous foes and engage in epic quests to unite the disparate peoples of a world at war. A romance with a seductive shape-shifter may hold the key to victory, or she may be a dangerous diversion from the heart of your mission. To be a leader, you must make ruthless decisions and be willing to sacrifice your friends and loved ones for the greater good of mankind.

    Incredible

Dragon Age: Origins is one of the most immersive RPG titles. In my opinion, it's in first place with Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, because of launch date, but Dragon Age wins on graphic details. Storyline and main campaign. A must-have, no doubt.

    Dragon Age: Origins (PS3)

I bought this game a few weeks ago and it's taken me that long to finish it, such is the wealth of content available in the form of sidequests, the (admittedly quite challenging) main storyline. It's not all quantity over quality either - the battle system is quite enjoyable and lingers in the classic dungeon crawler, though it would greatly benefit from a birds-eye perspective (which the PC version supposedly has). The system is semi turn based in that you can only use spells after a "cooldown" period, whereby you are limited to using physical attacks and potions) and it does work most of the time. It does have it's limits, for instance, it is nigh on impossible to dodge most attacks, especially spells and the floating numbers indicating damage can get quite confusing, especially when using a move that hits more than once. The friendly A.I. can be quite infuriating as well; you have to 'program' a strategy for your friends to use otherwise they will simply charge at anything that moves regardless of their remaining health or attack power. Where the game really falls down though is in the technical side of things. Aliasing, chronic framerate drops and screen tearing are just the tip of the iceberg. The autosave feature just makes things worse, as it comes into play after every load screen, takes about 30 seconds at which point, the game runs at about 5fps, especially when in battle. It really is disappointing how a game with a lot of potential can be let down by schoolboy graphical errors, though the game is able to rise above these faults at times. While the dialogue is at times ropey, the story and voice acting are mostly engaging aand the variety of endings/outcomes stimulae the want of a second playthrough. It's just a pity then that you are not able to continue on with your character after the climax unless you purchase the DLC, a tactic that seems to be spreading like a plague to most modern WRPGs. Despite this, I enjoyed the game to a degree and I feel a 3/5 rating is fully deserved. Hopefully, Bioware can sort out most of the issues above for the upcoming Dragon Age 2!

    Huge and Engaging Fantasy RPG

Overview: Just finished this and loved it! Great story, and each decision made affects it - how people react to you, to opening up more story and what ending you have, so fantastic realism and replay value. The characters are interesting and varied with amusing dialogue and even some relationship options! Pros: 40+ hours of gameplay, lots of sidequests, gear and companions. Dynamic storyline. More DLC/expansions if you like it (purchase required). Cons: Some people may want more choice with character creation (ie. humans are nobles only) and you can't have cross class (ie. rogue/warrior), but there are specialisations that can be unlocked. You will love this if you enjoyed: Oblivion, Fallout 3, Diablo series, Guild Wars and Neverwinter Nights series. Summary: This game was an absolute bargain when I got it for £25 and now is even cheaper so snap it up!
