Batman: Arkham City & The Dark Knight / Batman Begins Blu-ray Bundle

    Product Review

    Release Date: 21 October 2011

Developed by Rocksteady Studios, Batman: Arkham City builds upon the intense, atmospheric foundation of Batman: Arkham Asylum, sending players soaring into Arkham City, the new maximum security "home" for all of Gotham City’s thugs, gangsters and insane criminal masterminds. Set inside the heavily fortified walls of a sprawling district in the heart of Gotham City, this highly anticipated sequel introduces a brand-new story that draws together a new all-star cast of classic characters and murderous villains from the Batman universe, as well as a vast range of new and enhanced gameplay features to deliver the ultimate experience as the Dark Knight.

Batman: Arkham City is based on DC Comics’ core Batman license. For more information, visit www.batmanarkhamcity.com.

    Catwoman announced as playable character:

As Catwoman, players will have a chance to indulge in their darker side and explore Arkham City as the infamous feline femme fatale. Complete with her own storyline in the main game, Catwoman’s adventure complements Batman’s central role and is seamlessly interwoven with his main story arc. She will also be playable in the challenge maps with her own unique combat moves, gadgetry and signature 'takedowns'.

    Features:

    • Become the Dark Knight – Batman: Arkham City delivers a genuinely authentic Batman experience with advanced, compelling gameplay on every level: high-impact street brawls, nail-biting stealth, multifaceted forensic investigation, epic super-villain encounters and unexpected glimpses into Batman’s tortured psychology.
    • Advanced FreeFlow Combat – Batman faces highly coordinated, simultaneous attacks from every direction as Arkham’s gangs bring heavy weapons and all-new AI to the fight, but Batman steps it up with twice the number of combat animations and double the range of attacks, counters and takedowns.
    • New Gadgets – Batman has access to new gadgets such as the Cryptographic Sequencer V2 and Smoke Pellets, as well as new functionality for existing gadgets that expand the range of Batman’s abilities without adding extra weight to his Utility Belt.
    • New Story – Five-time Emmy-Award-winner Paul Dini returns to pen a brand-new story for Batman: Arkham City, taking gamers deep inside the diseased heart of Gotham.
    • Arkham Has Moved – Following the closure of Arkham Asylum and Blackgate prison, Gotham’s new mayor, Quincy Sharp ordered the relocation of all inmates to Arkham City - a sprawling new super-prison five times bigger than Arkham Island, enclosing a wide variety of industrial districts, iconic locations and Gotham landmarks.
    • Huge Cast of Characters – Players encounter numerous characters from the Batman universe, including Catwoman, Two-Face, Harley Quinn, Hugo Strange, Victor Zsasz, Calendar Man, The Joker, The Riddler and other iconic characters yet to be revealed.
    • Featured VO Talent – Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy reprise their roles as The Joker and Batman respectively.

    Batman Begins

In Batman Begins, acclaimed director Christopher Nolan explores the origins of the legendary Dark Knight. In the wake of his parents' murders, disillusioned heir Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) travels the world seeking the means to fight injustice and turn fear against those who prey on the fearful. With the help of his trusted butler Alfred (Michael Caine), detective Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman) and his ally Lucius Fox (Morgan Freeman), Wayne returns to Gotham City and unleashes his alter ego: Batman, a masked crusader who uses strength, intellect and an array of high-tech weaponry to fight the sinister forces that threaten the city.

    Special Features:

    • 'Batman - The Journey Begins': creative concepts, story development and casting
    • 'Shaping Mind And Body': the fighting styles in the movie
    • 'Gotham City Rises': production design
    • 'Cape And Cowl': the new Batsuit
    • 'Path To Discovery': filming in Iceland
    • 'Saving Gotham City': the monorail chase sequence
    • 'Genesis Of The Bat': Batman incarnations from the mid 1980s to the present
    • 'Confidential Files': character and weaponry gallery
    • Still gallery of design ideas developed to market the movie.

    The Dark Knight

Christopher Nolan returns to direct the follow up to his own 2005 blockbuster 'Batman Begins', with Christian Bale once again suited up as 'The Dark Knight'.

Gotham City, previously a playground for organised crime and petty thieves, has been cleaned up under the ever watchful eye of Batman. With the continued help of Lt James Gordon (Gary Oldman) and determined District Attorney Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart), Batman continues to round up the remaining criminals plaguing it.

As the opening sequence quickly shows, a new threat has emerged. The Joker! brought to life again, this time by the late Heath Ledger (Best Supporting Actor Oscar winner). With his eerie grin and wicked laugh, mixed with pyschotic madness, he unleashes a new danger to the people of Gotham amidst all his chaos.

As Batman struggles to bring the madman to justice, his alter-ego Bruce Wayne is caught in a love triangle as Rachel Dawes' (Maggie Gyllenhaal) relationship with Harvey Dent grows stronger. Knowing that Harvey may be the 'White Knight' required to bring continued peace to Gotham, Batman hopes that for the last time his skills and arsenal of equipment will be needed to stop the crazed villain before the city falls back into turmoil! - MW

    Why so serious?

OK, I'll admit that I'm a bit of Dark Knight fan. And by a bit, I mean 'a bit' in the way that Batman is 'a bit' cool or 'a bit' hard. Arkham Asylum was so good, it made me have long thoughts about which has been my best PS3 game - Uncharted 2 or AA? That's how good it is. And now someone has gone and brought ol' big ears back and made it bigger, better and - remarkably - even cooler than before. As someone who knows a bit or two about Bats' world, this game hits the nail so firmly on the head that the head is coming out of the point. Buy it, play it, love it, and then you can thank me later for making your world just a bit better. Oh, and you get two kick-ass films on Blu-ray that completely wipe the neon-lycra Messof the Joel Schumacher years away from the memory. Why so serious? Because the world needs saving and you're only one man...

    Brilliant

Wow what a cracking deal and a game that will keep you going for a good month I spent a solid weekend playing only to get about 10% through the game. I honestly didn't get that attached to the first instalment as it just didn't do it for me. This is for me much better. The storyline and the sound is amazing.

    Best Game with BluRay Duology

Arkham City is better than the previous great game Arkham Asylum. Much wider area to roam, more gadgets and characters to play, all and all, it's the best 3rd person shooter action game release ever. Two Blu-ray discs are also great to go with PS3. Very happy with the purchase!

    Batman: Arkham City

If you played the previous game and liked it, then you are going to love this, every single thing from the last game has been improved and they have added a whole host of new things too. The combat is absolutely stunning to watch, you find yourself in a fight and in a trance due to how great the fights look then forget to your supposed to press something!! Its that amazing. The stealth is so good too, clearing a room of baddies is so much fun and the speed in which you can do it is stunning! You move as quick as Batman himself. There is a Grand theft auto element too in the fact you have loads of side missions to do, you will not get bored with this that's for sure. Stunning game, stunning Blu-rays and stunning value. Need I say any more.

    Can they better Arkham Asylum?

In short, yes. Arkham City is a fantastic game with a well paced, interesting story combined with fluid gameplay and top graphics. One warning, this game will suck all your life away for the first week. It is utterly addictive! Once the main story is finished there are challenge maps to complete which extend the life of the game almost indefinitely. So far, this is my Game of the Year. If it's not GOTY I am going to be one happy gamer come the New Year because the final winner will be truly epic. The final thing to be said about this package is the Blu-ray discs: good quality picture and sound and at this bundled price is an absolute steal.

    I'm The Bat-Fella

Simply put, this is by far the most 'un-put-downable' game I have played, the story and side missions have you going for hours. At midnight on a work night you'll just want to play 'one more mission'. If you loved Arkham Asylum then you shouldn't think twice about getting this sequel. I bought this with the blu-ray bundle of both films which made this excellent value.

One of the best games I have ever played

I have been playing computer games for an embarrassingly long time. It is rare that a game grabs me like this one. The first game of this series, Arkham Asylum, was good. But this one expands on the first, and throws a few new ideas in for good measure. The story itself is very good, all be it rather short. But like a lot of titles these days, the actual story is only a small part of the whole game. Unusually, the side missions in Arkham City are as well thought out and as well presented as the main story missions. Graphically, Arkham City is stunning, and I am not entirely sure how the software house managing to squeeze those sort of visuals out of the now ageing PS3. If you liked the first game, you'll love this. Beautifully presented, incredibly well thought out, and extremely playable.

    Game of the year

Arkham City takes all the great things from Arkham Asylum and put it in an open world game. The result is simple, if you've ever wanted to feel what it is to be the Batman, here is your chance! Arkham City is probably the game of the year.
