007: Quantum Of Solace

    Product Review

    Release Date: 31 October 2008

James Bond continues his comeback with this action title based on the blockbuster that blends first and third person combat.

As this is Bond’s first visit to current generation hardware, Quantum of Solace follows the events of both the blockbuster of the same name and its predecessor Casino Royale, telling the story of how James Bond became the 007 we know and love. The edge of the new Bond films transfers to the title, and the likenesses and voices of actors from both films are used, including Judy Dench and Daniel Craig. Locations from each from film are also on offer, from the Casino Royale in Montenegro to the countryside of Madagascar.

Taking cues from other modern action titles, Bond is no longer limited to a first person perspective. James can jump in and out of cover, switching between a first person perspective for combat and third person while taking cover. While in cover, James is able to fire while protected or lay down covering fire to help distract enemies. These enemies act as more than just cannon fodder, outflanking players and finding cover as they fight.

Quantum of Solace finally gives Bond a presence on current consoles, blending cover-based combat with a traditional first person shooting.

James Bond is back to settle the score in Quantum of Solace. Introducing a more lethal and deadly Bond, the game blends intense first person action with a third person cover combat system that allows you to feel what it is like to be the ultimate secret agent as you use stealth, precision shooting and lethal combat skills to progress through missions.

Seamlessly blending the heart-pounding action and excitement of the Quantum of Solace feature film with the Casino Royale movie, the title propels players into the cinematic experience of international espionage. Silently take down enemies, sneak through confined spaces, engage in grand scale shoot-outs, hack hi-tech computer locks and more.

    Quantum of Solace

This is a truly great game, it has strong gameplay and closely follows the plot of both Quantum of Solace and Casino Royale which is great for any Bond fan as you get essentially two games in one! The choice to move the Bond games back to first person shooter was a fantastic choice especially when using the same game engine as the renowned Call of Duty series. You really feel like you're James Bond as many of the famous stunts and chase sequences are recreated in the game, from the chase through Siena and gunfights in the collapsing Perla de las Dunas hotel to a stealthy infiltration into the Miami Science Centre. All round, a definite purchase for any Bond fan and also for anyone just looking for an action packed first person shooter.
