When you tune in to watch a spin off of one of your most beloved series, you automatically go into the frame of mind that it will be no good. But when you watch Torchwood, it changes your mind radically within the first few minutes. It brings out a darker side to the Who universe and has an emotionally charged atmosphere that most shows can rarely deliver. This is an absolute bargain.
Then majorly brilliant series of Torchwood. The spin off from longest running british sci fi series Doctor Who. As you follow Jack Harkness and his team at Torchwood hunt down aliens who run riot around Cardiff. Then the latest series 3 children of earth a 5 part series which sees Torchwood fall in a battle to stop the 4,5,6 ! A brilliant buy for any Torchwood fan and an absolute must get!
I thought personally the whole series of Torchwood is brilliant. It was said to be 'darker' and more of an 'adult' programme compared to Doctor Who, which it is, especially in the second series! The quality of the script and drama in the second series is an improvement over the first. So yes my favourite series has to be the second. I am so glad there is another torchwood coming out soon. It should be as good as the rest without a doubt. I suggest that you watch Torchwood, especially if you're a Doctor Who fan.
It is fan-tastic! A real good show that has alot to offer the Doctor Who spin off series! This is well worth the money and well worth the TV time. A series that could go on and on and on!
The first season fo Torchwood isn't great - it is certainly watchable but it seems to be overly obsessed with it's post-watershed status. Stories are build around the fact that they can feature more adult content, rather than adult content flowing naturally from the story. The second story of the first season, which involves a alien-possessed female 'sexing' people to death is a prime example of this. It's too dark, there's not much humour and the whole thing feels very bleak. Without humour it becomes a bit too much at times. It's like Doctor Who, but depressing. It seems to be written with the "I could put a love scene here, cause we're post-watershed" rather than "this feels like a natural place for a love scene". The episodes really suffer. The second season fixes many of the problems in season one. Adult content for the sake of adult content is toned down, and there is a more light-hearted approach to the whole affair - but it still isn't quite there yet. It's better, but some of the flaws do carry over. Season 3 - AKA Children Of Earth is near perfect-television. A single story told over five one-hour episodes, there's plenty of time for the story to develop and breathe. We get some real character moments and there is still a degree of the necessary levity (provided largely by the brilliant Kai Owen) and the whole thing is an emotional roller-coaster. To fully apprecaite Children Of Earth, the first two seasons are essential viewing - making this set a must buy.
