A biopic about one of Britain's most controversial Prime Ministers was bound to incite strong feelings. This intimate portrait focuses less on the politics and more on the person behind the Iron Lady label. The performance led picture is driven by a tour de force performance from Academy Award winning Meryl Streep, who transforms into the indomitable Margaret Thatcher.
Her rise to power in a male dominated, class driven establishment is juxtaposed with the now frail and elderly Dame Thatcher haunted by the ghost of her late husband, Denis Thatcher (Jim Broadbent). A poignant portrayal of the country's first female PM, an unrivalled feat still. – R.K.

A dazzling performance given by Meryl Streep. The film gives a true insight into trials and tribulations of a true leader. Also reflecting on the vulnerability of Margaret Thatcher as she struggles to come to terms with her later years since leaving Downing Street.
I really looked forward to watching this DVD as I didn't get to see it at the cinema. Actually I think I prefer having the film to keep as I will happily watch it again in the comfort of my own home with a glass of wine! The direction and acting was superb. The only disappointment was the portrayal of Baroness Thatcher; including her frailties in old age. I thought this was a little unkind, especially as she is still with us. As the title indicated, it was about the Iron Lady and her remarkable achievements whilst in office, and her courage and determination to see her policies through, with the unfailing support of her husband Denis (brilliantly portrayed by Jim Broadbent). All in all an extremely good buy. Thank you THE HUT for prompt service!
Meryl Streep gives a wonderful performance in The Iron Lady. A real insight into the life of Margaret Thatcher and her time as Prime Minister. Definitely a film worthy of its awards.
