The House of Batiatus is on the rise, basking in the glow of its infamous champion Gannicus, whose skill with a sword is matched only by his thirst for wine and women. These are the times a young Batiatus has been waiting for. Poised to overthrow his father and take control, he’ll freely betray anyone to ensure his gladiators are in the highest demand. And he’ll have his loyal and calculating wife Lucretia by his side for every underhanded scheme, drawing on the brazen talents of her seductive friend Gaia when it counts. Together, they will stop at nothing to deceive the masses, seize power, and bleed Capua dry in this audacious prequel to "Spartacus: Blood and Sand.

If you enjoyed Spartacus: Blood & Sand, then this is a must-see. The sex, gore and profanity continue unabated - even more so in some respects! It is more than just being explicit of course and like the first series, tells the story in a both riveting and dramatic manner. It was filmed as a prequel, in order to give the late Andy Whitfield (Spartacus) more time to recover from his serious illness, but tragically he was to succumb to it. I had expected to find that without Andy in it, Gods of the Arena would be inferior to Blood & Sand, but the high standard continued and the exemplary acting by the remaining regulars as well as the new faces, ensured a viewing experience every bit as entertaining as the first, full series.
best programme ever. would definitely recommend to friends.
Bloody brilliant. Please buy if you like a gritty, plotting, violent. drama. Not suitable for under 18's as can be very shocking both violently and sexually. A strong stomach required for viewing!!
