Anyone who loves classics knows how risky it is to take a beloved and world famous literary character like Sherlock Holmes and try to transport them into the 21st century, yet this is exactly what Sherlock does.. and it does it magnificently! You can definitely feel the Steven Moffat (Doctor Who writer) influence in this fun and thoroughly entertaining take on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's infamous detective. The show is witty, fast-paced, and for the most part family friendly, despite subject matter involving murder investigations and such. The plots are subtle reworkings of famous Sherlock Holmes stories and a number of elements from different novels have been combined as inside jokes for the enthusiasts. Benedict Cumberbatch is brilliantly cast as the sarcastic yet brilliant Sherlock, and Martin Freeman is adorable as the unappreciated but loyal Watson. The only criticism I would make is that there are only 3 episodes per season.. it makes the wait for the next series of this fanastic show almost unbearable! I guarantee that once you've finished this series 1 dvd you'll be back to buy the 2nd series straight away.. indubitably!
