Description

A little adventure goes a lawn way.

In the gardens of Fair Verona Drive a love is blossoming between two garden gnomes, Gnomeo (James McAvoy) and Juliet (Emily Blunt). Unfortunately for them, they both come from separate gardens which have been in a turf war and are constantly battling amongst each other.

High-speed lawnmower chases are just the beginning, stealth missions and protecting boundaries are day to day routines. Now the two gnomes must formulate a plan to bring peace and harmony between the two gardens.

William Shakespeare’s classic tragedy/romance is given a modern twist with the aid of computer animation and a collection of some of the best British actors around.

Shakespeare in the backyard

Gnomeo and Juliet is a good quality CGI animation that adapts the famous Shakespeare tragedy play into a comedy. A fine voice cast, with veterans Dame Maggie Smith and Sir Micheal Caine amongst other well known names, makes this an entertaining movie to watch. But because the source material is in fact a tragedy, the comedy does not sparkle all the way through.

Gnomeo and juliet

An excellent modern twist to an old and popular classic. It manages to hold the romance and sadness of the original storyline yet still injects the new twist with highly favourable comedy. It also changes the ending to be happier than others but still manages to make it fit perfectly. Kids will enjoy the many features it brings and adults too will have find its many jokes and comical features funny. A great all round family film. A definite four star rating deserved. I did find at times certain periods where an extra joke would have been appreciated and so I did not give the highest rating. However, a definite recommendation to those who enjoy animated films.

Gnomeo and Juliet

Gnomeo and Juliet is the story of two gardens and the gnomes that live in them. When all the people go to sleep, the gnomes come out to play. And they really get up to some mischief, having lawnmower races and all sorts of crazy things! Gnomeo and Juliet is like Shrek, Toy Story and Romeo and Juliet, all rolled into one big, animated adventure. This funny, heart-warming film is really worth seeing making me blush a little!

For all ages!

A great film that captures the kids from the beginning to the very end. Based on Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet, the red and blue gnomes are enemies when Gnomeo & Juliet meet and fall in love. With fabulous celebrity voices such as Emily Blunt and Ozzy Osbourne, this film is a laugh-a-minute must see for all ages. I found a lot of funny older lines that the children didnt get but there were lots of very funny visuals that my daughter and her friends just giggled at. With a great soundtrack from Elton John Gnomeo & Juliet is a top Birtish film that you must see.

Gno laughing matter

I enjoyed this film a lot more than expected, don't get me wrong, it is very alike to other films of the same type, sometimes seems to be borrowing ideas from the likes of Toy Story. Its story is about feuding gnomes of neighbouring gardens, red hats and blue hats and how a couple of gnomes, one from each garden meet and fall in love, aka Romeo and Juliet. Theres a wide range of well known voices used in the film, from Hulk Hogan to Jason Stathom, which are all good fun to listen to. On a whole I found this film very enjoyable, slightly eclectic but in a refreshing way

Great Fun Family Film

I was lucky enough to attend the London première of Gnomeo & Juliet and my whole family thought it was a cute fun film. It's not quite up there with the likes of Shrek but the characters are very likeable and the story is a well known one but with a twist. I would definitely recommend it for a rainy afternoon and if you don't enjoy the film just shut your eyes and enjoy all the great Elton John songs!

Amazing for both adults and kids!

I went to watch this at the cinema as a Valentine Day movie with my partner. He was NOT impressed with my choice to start with but by about 20 minutes into the film he was as mesmerised as I was! The characters are so likeable and well thought out and even the baddies are funny in their own quirky way. A nice plot with some really funny moments. Worth a watch.

Gnomeo and Juliet

I thought this was a great film for adults and children alike. The music was all Elton John based and it really had you tapping your feet. The smaller children wouldn't have got the Romeo and Juliet connection but it was there and the film also managed to portray humour and a touch of sadness. My children aged 10 and 9 loved it but I sneakily suspect I liked it even more :)

GNOMEO AND JULIET

Who ever thinks of these characters deserves some sort of award. A computer animated retake of the Shakespeare tragedy, played out by garden gnomes in the middle of a turf war. The idea works and not just for the young children its aimed at. I thoroughly enjoyed the film and no doubt will look forward to a number 2 film coming out soon. The producers were clearly hoping for a mixture of Toy Story and Shrek, and while the film doesn't quite have the charming characters of Shrek you will grow to love the characters in this film. They have lots of energy, are spirited, funny and charming. The film is powered by pure invention and eccentricity. A fab film which kept me and the children engrossed in the story line.

Gnomeo and Juliet

This is a real feel good film, based (loosely!) on the story of Romeo and Juliet. Two rival gnome clans, in neighbouring gardens, clash daily with each other, until one day Gomeo the blue gnome meets Juliet the red gnome... An upbeat Elton John soundtrack (David Furish is a co-director), lovely graphics and voice artists who make the characters come to life. James MacAvoy is so good as the voice of Gnomeo, it makes mums start to ask themselves if it is wrong to fancy a gnome. Meanwhile, it has lots of slapstick humour, action, and fun bits (especially Ozzy Osbourne as a dozy reindeer) that really does make this suitable for every age.

Great music

Took me back to school-days, remembering Romeo and Juliet play from O level English! Music great, and lots of famous people doing the voices. Thought it was going to be awful, but was pleasantly surprised. The kids (12 and 9) absolutely loved it.

I heard reviews about this film before I watched it and most of them panned it savagely. To be fair to the film it had my kids and me roaring with laughter at many points in it. It is loosely set around Romeo and Juliet obviously and Adults will get the comparison and enjoy the slight nuances and subtle genre jokes. The kids didn't grasp this and they aren't expected to really. They don't even need to. Every film seems to have its own King Julian now, a funny character that speaks in a weird accent and is just a bit off the wall. In this film it happens to be a pink flamingo and this works just beautifully although slightly underused in my opinion. The Frog is superb and typical of your confident and cocky best mate in most life situations. I would give the film 5 stars but it ended a bit too soon for my liking, I would have liked it to be a bit longer and involve some of the funnier characters more, but still well worth a watch.
