'101 Punk and New Wave Anthems' is a whopping 5CD compendium of hits, including the most iconic punk rock artists ever around! (The Sex Pistols, plus The Jam, Ramones, The Stranglers, Buzzcocks and many more) The album takes us smoothly from one musical defnining era to another and introduces the best of the New Waves artists including Simple Minds, Human League, The Fun Boy Three and Adam And The Ants. This is the biggest and best collection of punk and new wave artists from the late 70s and early 80s, and is absolutely unmissable!

My Youth In Five Compact Discs
Ask anyone today about the Punk explosion of the mid-to-late-seventies and watch their eyes glaze over as they recite: "Funny haircuts, spitting, swearing, 100mph guitars and loud drums, drugs and dead nutjobs". The Media View. For those of us lucky to be young then, it was a magical time, when the music-lovers among us rejected the album-by-the-numbers, safe Pop and comfy Rock bands who were hogging the charts and producing music for people who don't like music, the soft majority who owned a record player and really only had to have something to play on it. Anything. So long as it was safe and acceptable to other tone-deaf morons. Huh. And don't believe the Hype. It wasn't Political, it wasn't Art, and it had totally nothing to do with Fashion, no matter what the telly pundits and Social History professors say. It was all about young people getting together in small, sweaty rooms and dancing to live music. No Top of the Pops regulars. No Grammy Award winners. (were there Grammies then? Doesn't matter. You know what I mean.) These bands didn't stay in 5 star hotels, only do telly interviews and refuse to give autographs to fans waiting in the rain. And they didn't just play 3 chords and speed up the drums, either. "101 Punk and New Wave Anthems" shows the true diversity of the musical taste at that time. The laid-back, rough bawdiness of Ian Dury & the Blockheads; the sprawling musicianship of Talking Heads; the sexy power-pop Blondie; the light and sprightly Buzzcocks; the West Indies-influenced Specials - all this and much, much more, bringing back memories and reminding us that, in the end, it was all about the freedom to enjoy real music for real people. I got this album for 'nothing'. I got a musical funfair ride through my youth. Which is for ever.

Golden Age of Music?
Great choice of songs on this collection - some maybe not punk or new wave enough but the majority are good. Brought some great memories back.
