A Different Kind Of Truth (Deluxe Edition) - Van Halen CD

A Different Kind Of Truth (Deluxe Edition)

    Product Review

    Release Date: 06 February 2012

Few bands can stir memories of the eighties like Van Halen – who in many ways were the epitomisation of that decade – with big hair, flamboyant garb, and more than their fair share of catchy synthesized hooks. Formed in 1974, the band went on to become one of the most celebrated and influential groups of all time winning numerous accolades and selling more than 75 million albums worldwide, with hits like "Jump" and "Panama", fondly remaining some of the most popular rock anthems of all time.

The bands twelfth studio album, and first since 1998's "Van Halen III", is "A Different Kind of Truth" which is also the first to feature David Lee Roth in the role of lead vocalist since their landmark release "1984". The album is as heavy as ever with a tone that, on more than one occasion, recalls the stormy flourishes of their 1978 self titled debut. Tracks of particular interest include "China Town", "Big River", and "She's the Woman". With the return of Roth and a wide range of fresh, exciting material, "A Different Kind of Truth" should appeal to both long time fans and newcomers alike!

This Deluxe Edition also boasts a DVD that features acoustic performances of "Panama", "You And Your Blues", and "Beautiful Girls". (Adam Bibby)

A great comeback from hard rock legends

After 15 years of darkness, DLR and the boys came up with a new album that is refreshing and total dynamite. The whole album is a great rollercoaster ride and only the first song 'Tattoo' is a weakness. All the other songs are great like 'She's the Woman' and 'Stay Frosty'. Eddie still shows he can handle his guitar and David Lee Roth can take up the microphone. Even Eddie's son Wolfgang shows that he has learned a lot from his dad and is powerful with the bass. Many fans will be disappointed not to hear Michael Anthony's background vocals and bass presence, but it works great also in the new formation. Alex Van Halen simply dominates the drums and shows why he still is one of the best hard rock drummers in the world.
