Joss Whedon, the Oscar and Emmy-nominated writer/director behind Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, now applies his trademark wit in this breathtaking action epic.

Captain Malcolm Reynolds, a hardened veteran (on the losing side) of a galactic civil war, now ekes out a living aboard his ship, Serenity. He leads a small, eclectic crew, but when Mal takes on two new passengers - a young doctor and his telepathic sister - he gets much more than he bargained for. The pair are fugitives from the coalition dominating the universe, and so Serenity finds itself caught between the unstoppable military force of the Alliance, the horrific, cannibalistic fury of the Reavers - and another danger lurking at the very heart of the spaceship...

"They aim to misbehave"

Serenity by all accounts was a movie that should never have been able to made, after all how many international box office movies have there been made for TV Shows that were cancelled before the end of their first season? But the fact that it was able to be made is a testament to how unbelievably fantastic Firefly and its movie sequel Serenity is and the devotion it spawns within its fans. Firefly and Serenity are both excellent examples of Sci-Fi at its finest with its own unique style of Wild West meets space. Following the exploits of an excellent cast of characters led by the swash buckling Captain Reynolds (who I think gives Han Solo a run for his money) and his heroic and occasionally anti heroic crew as they fly from planet to planet trying to find any honest and un-honest work they can in a solar system under the ever intensifying grip of the tyrannical regime of the Alliance. Firefly and Serenity are both without a doubt some of the best examples of Sci-Fi ever made for both the large and small screen and if you have not yet experienced it I implore you to give it a go, the only thing you'll be disappointed in, is the fact that there isn’t more of it to watch.

Joss Whedon brings back the crew from the Firefly series for the big screen outing and well this really is about as good as it gets. If you haven't seen the Firefly series don't panic, you'll get the story very quickly, but for me if you want to get as much as you can out of the film then spend a couple of evenings watching the 12 episode series first. The film concentrates on what the series unfortunately didn't get time to complete and does an absolute fantastic job of it too! Not only is it a beautiful looking and well made film but the humour will have you laughing out loud in places. Of course it wouldn't be Joss Whedon if at one point you found the laughter turning to a lump in your throat. I don't want to review this film and talk about plot or characters as I really do not want to spoil anything for the viewer so all I will say is get comfy and enjoy the ride!!
