Description

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy tells the story of Frodo Baggins (Elijah Wood), a hobbit who battles against the Dark Lord Sauron to save his world, Middle-earth, from the grip of evil. In the films, Frodo and his fellowship of friends and allies embark on a desperate journey to rid Middle-earth of the source of Sauron's greatest strength, the One Ring - a ring that has the power to enslave the inhabitants of Middle-earth. The trilogy tells tales of extraordinary adventures across the treacherous landscape of Middle-earth and reveals how the power of friendship, love and courage can hold the forces of darkness at bay. Beside Wood, the films star Ian McKellen, Liv Tyler, Viggo Mortensen, Sean Astin, Cate Blanchett, John Rhys-Davies, Billy Boyd, Dominic Monaghan, Orlando Bloom, Christopher Lee, Hugo Weaving, featuring Sean Bean, and Ian Holm, with Andy Serkis as Gollum. The films also star Marton Csokas, Craig Parker and Lawrence Makaoare.

In this first part of the Trilogy, the young hobbit Frodo Baggins inherits a ring; but this ring is no mere trinket. It is the One Ring, an instrument of absolute power that could allow Sauron, the dark Lord of Mordor, to rule Middle-earth and enslave its peoples. Frodo, together with a Fellowship that includes his loyal hobbit friends, humans, a wizard, a dwarf and an elf, must take the One Ring across Middle-earth to Mount Doom, where it first was forged, and destroy it forever. Such a journey means venturing deep into territory manned by Sauron, where he is amassing his army of Orcs. And it is not only external evils that the Fellowship must combat, but also internal dissension and the corrupting influence of the One Ring itself. The course of future history is entwined with the fate of the Fellowship. The film won four Oscars for Best Visual Effects, Cinematography, Makeup and Original Score.

Lord of the Rings Trilogy

This Lord Of The Rings Box Set is of excellent value. Free delivery, great product and service. Films are excellent for anyone who likes a fiction but doesn't scare too easy, not for younger than 12 years old in my opinion.

Lord Of The Rings Trilogy

I got this box set from The Hut, which came out cheapest in a price comparison search. If there was ever a trilogy which deserved to be viewed on blue-ray, it's this one. Each of the three DVD cases contains a second disc with extra features, such as "the making of..." and there's about six night's viewing here altogether. Overall ... classic must have films, crystal clear picture, great value pack, a final version for the shelf/collection.

An epic movie in all manners of the word. From the visuals to the sound to the acting - this is just one of those have-to-have box sets. The movies really do justice to JRR Tolkien's books. Absolutely superb!

Great fantasy movies

At last the simply wonderful Lord of the Rings movies come to Blu-ray - not the extended editions of the films however, though I'm sure they will be along in due course. But for the moment marvel at the fantastic picture quality and immerse yourself in middle earth.

Such good movies! I know lots of people are being a bit sniffy about these not being the extended directors cuts but if you loved the movies on dvd you'll enjoy them even more on bluray - the picture and sound are amazing! Bonus - you also only need one whole day to watch all 3!

An epic adventure

The Lord of the rings is one of the most enthralling book-to-movie franchises. The movie though occassionally deviating from its book roots delivers a stunning experience to the audience. All the 3 parts of the movie are well shot & each part has a fantastic climax. The first part Fellowship of the Ring sets the user up for an epic journey into J.R.R. Tollkiens fascincating world of Middle Earth. Middle Earth is a place inhabited by Hobbits, Elves, Humans, Dwarfs and other mythical creatures. It introduces you to the main characters of the film Frodo, his two Hobbit friends & the great wizard Gandalf. The movie is well directed & finishes with the audience craving for more. The Two Towers deals with Frodo's long and ardous journey to destroy the ring & the difficulties he faces along the way. This part also brings to prominence Aragorn who goes from being a supporting actor in the 1st part to being more central to the movies theme. This movie ends with an awesome Battle on the Isengard & Frodo reaching the gates of Mordor. The story ends with the 3rd part: The Return Of The King, which though being the longest of the 3 parts eclipses the earlier two parts in its stupendous handling of the ultimate climax. Audiences should be satisfied with Peter Jackson's take on Tollkiens books. The transfer to Blu-Ray & picture quality of all the 3 films is almost on par with Avatar's. Overall, this movie set is a must-have for any movie-goer. P.S. If you've still not watched the movies yet, first read the book & then buy the Blu-Ray set. It'll help you understand some of the more intricate details of the movie.

Not The BEST

I have taken the trilogy from the local Blockbuster for few days, but I'm not very happy of the transfer. I've the Extended Vesion in DVD and I'll wait for the E.V. in bluray hoping that the transfer will be better, mostly for the first movie. Nevertheless the audio is very good, while the video is better for the Return of the King and the Two Towers. This is one of my best movies.

OK, so I'm not the biggest LOTR fan, but I saw them and thought they were pretty good, very gripping and different to most, but once I got given these and re-watched them, the Blu-Ray made all the difference, I love them, great films but high definition is blatently the way they were meant to be seen. You will not be disappointed.
