We try to make the most sustainable products we can at Haglöfs because we love the outdoors. And from a designer’s perspective, this was our way of making Haglöfs most sustainable waterproof garment ever.Jenny Kjellbom, Haglöfs EcoPROOF Designer

For over 100 years, Haglöfs has specialised in creating high-quality technical clothing and equipment designed for everyone from the amateur ambler to treacherous trailblazers. Born into a tradition of innovation and utilitarian design, the brand remains true to its roots for Spring/Summer 2018 when in presenting what is described as its “most sustainable waterproof garment ever” according to product designer Jenny Kjellbom.

The new Haglöfs EcoPROOF jacket was developed according to an ethos that to “re-use is better than replace”. Impassioned by the natural world, the brand counts sustainability and environmental impact among two of its core values in the 21st century and the EcoPROOF jacket has been created to offer exceptional waterproof and windproof performance while causing minimal impact to the natural world.

As a starting point, the EcoPROOF is built with a three-layer construction using Haglöfs’ PROOF™ Eco fabric, a high-performance membrane which is 100% fluorocarbon free. Its 3L construction includes sealed seams, offering complete water- and wind-proofing within a fabric that offer 2-way stretch for greater freedom of movement and a diamond-weave internal lining that helps wick moisture away from the body.

But in addition to its industry-leading fabrication, when creating the garment Haglöfs designer Jenny Kjellbom reconsidered sustainability in product design and asked how a waterproof jacket could really deliver an exceptionally long lifespan. Even when constructed from finest materials to the highest quality, there are always elements of a jacket that will deteriorate with wear, whether that be the zipper, buttons, elasticated or Velcro section or otherwise. With this in mind, the Haglöfs EcoPROOF is designed with most of its smaller pairs easily replaceable (zips, buttons) for outstanding longevity.

Built to stand the test of time, the EcoPROOF jacket features a classic aesthetic with cord adjustments to the hood and hem, elasticated webbing to the back for greater protection in wet weather, plus multiple spacious pockets to the front and chest for stowing away supplies on the go. Overall, the Haglöfs EcoPROOF jacket is a masterstroke in contemporary outerwear that fuses timeless, practical design with the modern need for sustainability and eco-friendly thinking.

But don’t take our word for it: Despite only recently entering the market, the EcoPROOF jacket has already scooped multiple awards for its design excellence including the Urban Outer Layer 3L Award at the prestigious ISPO Awards 2018 and the Sustainability Award at the Scandinavian Outdoor Awards 2018.

A best-performing piece built for any adventure, especially trekking for a very, very long time. Because as soon as you think the jacket’s met its match, you can show it a bit of love, spend some time reparing it – and it’ll be ready to go again.Scandinavian Outdoor Group
